A WOMAN has cheated death after a boom gate swung into her windscreen and smashed through her small hatchback on the Gold Coast.
The woman believed to be in her 20s or 30s was “inches from death” according to fire fighters on scene.
She was driving into Carey Car Park on Marine Pde, Southport, about 12.20pm when the boom gate blew open and hit her car.
It scraped along the bonnet before bending and becoming impaled in the body of the car.
Southport fire station officer Karl Nihot said the woman was very lucky to be alive.
“Swerving the car just a fraction saved her life,” he said.
The woman has been taken to Gold Coast University Hospital with a head injury.
Her injuries are not life threatening.
